Austria Pavilion at Expo 2010 in Shanghai

The Expo 2010 pavilion, designed and built by Austria, is themed ‘Austria – feel the harmony’ and will be dedicated to the subtheme of ‘harmonious interactions of urban and rural areas’.

The design competition was tendered throughout the EU and the project was awarded by a unanimous decision of the jury to the well respected Viennese firm of Arge SPAN & ZEYTINOGLU. The theme of the Austrian pavilion is impressively conveyed by the architectural team into an innovative form that arouses all senses.

The pavilion design has a dynamic and abstract external form, which is highlighted by the entertaining and artistic red and white porcelain outer skin and the multimedia-based VJ-performance. These colours do not only symbolize the Austrian national colours, but acknowledge red as the colour of luck in traditional Chinese culture.
