The décor and industrial-height ceiling gives the impression of an open foyer but the dim lighting helps to balance the space to create some intimacy at this new Italian gem from the owners of Lapis Lazuli. The menu offers a delightful array of classic Italian dishes and a well-selected list of wines to compliment them. We enjoyed the Carpacio Di Salmone (YY68), salmon and seabass ceviche on a bed of arugula salad with balsamic and olive oil which, even though tasty, lost points for being served a bit on the frozen side. Next we shared the Cotolette d’Agnello alla Mostarda (YY168), a charcoal mustard-encrusted rack of lamb, and the Bucatini al Ragu di Mare, a thicker version of spaghetti topped with minced seafood and a red wine tomato sauce (YY88). The rare lamb was skillfully seared and the flavor of the pasta’s red wine reduction was memorable. Both choices went well with a bottle of Ominum Cabernet Sauvignon (YY175). Although our bellies were bursting, the Chocolate Soufflé (YY38) came a courting alongside a single Illy espresso (YY18) which helped to counter the blissful food coma that such fullness can bring on a steamy August evening in Shanghai. The service was attentive, friendly and careful to maintain a leisurely Italian pace allowing us the time to relish each bite, each sip, and each temptation to add another course
